Board of Review
In the context of property taxes, a Board of Review is a local body that serves as an independent board to review the annual assessment roll and hear appeals from taxpayers who disagree with their property assessments.
- Examine and Review: The Board of Review examines the assessment roll provided by the local assessor, checking for completeness, accuracy, uniformity, and validity.
- Hear Appeals: It acts as an appeal board where property owners can formally protest their assessed property values, classification, or hardship exemptions.
- Correct Errors: The Board can correct errors in the assessment roll, including names, legal descriptions, and assessments.
- Adjust Assessments: If the Board finds that an assessment is incorrect or unfair based on the evidence presented, it can adjust the assessed value.
Liberty Township has partnered with our neighboring township, Colfax Township, to share in the costs associated with providing this service.
The Board of Review generally meets in March, July, and December. The March Board of Review usually begins on the Tuesday following the first Monday in March. The July and December Boards may be held on the Tuesday following the third Monday in July and the second Monday in December, respectively.
2025 Board of Review meetings will be held at Colfax Township Hall, 4960 N 31 Rd, Manton for both Liberty and Colfax property owners.
